TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - May 19, 2021

To Be Honest

Today is May 19, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

When Jesus preached on oaths in Matthew 5, he wasn't saying that taking an oath was bad, what he was saying was that we need to be honest. Jesus was focusing on the principle of honesty.

And scripture makes it clear that we should not lie (Leviticus 9:11), that we need to speak truth to each other (Zechariah 8:16, Ephesians 4:25), and that God, not only detests lying lips (Proverbs 12:22), but he hates a false witness who pours out lies (Proverbs 6:16-19).

As people of God we need to be known as being honest people.

But what about the white lies that we tell each other? What about those social, societal, professional, cultural, and  political 'little' lies that we just accept? Those lies where we say we aren't hurting anyone or where we say we are really protecting someone?

Well, the word of God demands that we wrestle with those lies as well. Instead of blindly accepting what other people accept as 'okay,' the word of God asks us to question whether they really are okay to God?

Are my exaggerations just good fun? Or am I being perceived as someone who is untrustworthy? Are my white lies really protecting someone? Or are they selflessly motivated? Am I lying to avoid an awkward situation? Or am I lying to avoid the awkwardness of dealing with my sin?

There is a reason why the devil is called the father of lies. As people of God we need to wrestle with which father we are following and whether we really are people of the God of truth.

God's blessing and protection over you as you wrestle with the principle of honesty and I look forward to worshiping with you in spirit this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - May 12, 2021

Biblical Gentleness

Today is May 12, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

When it comes to being gentle, sometimes it is tough. It's tough to show gentleness when the emotions run high and you are triggered. Perhaps it was one too many appeals; a moment of jealousy or selfish ambition; a moment of quarreling or resentfulness. Whatever the reason, it is hard to show gentleness sometimes.

But that is what Christ showed us. He was gentle. He showed it in humility and grace as he came into Jerusalem on a donkey. He taught on the selfless nature of it in the sermon on the Mount. Gentleness is who Jesus is and what he implied was part of the 'yoke' that we need to carry. Meaning, as tough as it is sometimes to show gentleness, that internal struggle to be gentle is part of the good work we are created to do in Christ Jesus.

As Christ showed and taught and is, so we must try to do. We must try to be gentle. 'To show that h
umble, gracious, assertive, selfless, good work, Christ following, biblical gentleness. For it is this gentleness that scripture tells us to pursue (1 Tim 6:11), to be clothed in (Col 3:12), to bear (Gal 5:22-23), and to be evident to all (Phil 4:5).

God's blessing upon you as you wrestle with biblical gentleness and showing it in your lives, and I look forward to worshipping with you online or onsite this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MAY 5, 2021

Face to Face

Today is May 5, 2021

Welcome to May and your mid-week!

I remember times in my life where I thought God hated me or, where I felt like God was distant or uncaring or straight up mean.

However, when I am in the presence of the Lord, I am always reminded of his promises, I am always reminded of his faithfulness and of his unconditional love. In his presence I am reminded that I am not alone, that he knows me, and that he is with me every step of the way. In his presence I am reminded of his action on the cross that was done for my sake, and I am reminded of the place he prepares for me in heaven.

In the presence of the Lord I am reminded of Numbers 6:24-26, and know that God does bless me and keep me, that he does shine his face toward me and gives me grace and peace.

However, I am only reminded of all of that if I am in the presence of the Lord; when I am seeking the face of God. When I don't, I'm lost.

This is why God tells us:

Psalm 105:4
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

For when we are face to face with God, not only does his light [push back the lies of this world, but we find the strength to have hope and move forward.

God's blessings upon you and your family as you seek the Lord's face, and I look forward to worshipping with you online or onsite this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 28, 2020

An Update from Pastor Frank about the Opening of our Church's Onsite Worship Service

After much prayer and deliberation, the leadership of our church has decided to open the 9:45am Sunday worship service for onsite worship. Meaning, starting May 2 (Sun) and moving forward, the 9:45am worship will be a hybrid online/onsite worship.

The leadership will monitor the covid numbers during the month of May and will decide, at a later date, whether to open up the 11:30am worship service and the education worship services for the month of June.

For now, the 11:30am worship service will remain being online only.

I know that the pandemic has been a trying and difficult time but, as Hebrews 12:1b encourages us, “…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

We are almost at the end of this. The finish line is in sight. Let us continue to be steadfast while encouraging one another and, in due time, I know we will see each other face to face.

God’s blessings upon you all and be safe!

Rev. Frank Kim

April 27, 2021

#tldr 9:45am onsite adult service is now open. 11:30am service is still online. No education worship services yet.

God's Eyes

Today is April 28, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

We live in a divisive world where, instead of seeing each other as people made in the image of God, we see each other as less - looking down upon people we view as wrong or guilty.

Yet, being God's image bearers means more than just who we are, it is who we ought to be. Within the phrase it is implied that we need to be transformed. And that transformation is only possible if the gospel is at the center of our lives.

Conversations with people we disagree with need not be about securing who is the victim or who is the innocent or who is to blame or who is absolved. If the gospel is at our center, conversations can be an appeal to see what we have in common and not what divides us. It can be an appeal to see that we are all brothers and sisters, all fallen through Adam, all saved in Christ - that the only way we can move forward together is through the common morality that appeals to the best that we can be via the power and conviction of the Holy Spirit and the transformational power of the word of God.

Having the gospel be the center of our lives means seeing people the way God sees people and to act as he did - in trust, humility, patience, vision, mercy, grace, compassion, and love.

God's blessing and protection over you and your family as you try to see people the way God does, and I look forward to seeing you onsite or online this Sunday!

Show Me Your Glory

Today is April 21, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

I remember being in college, being in a difficult situation, and asking God for a sign. Seconds later I saw a semi-truck pulling a trailer with the letters 'G.O.D.' on it. It was a company advertising 'guaranteed overnight delivery' but, in that moment, it was the sign I had prayed for.

I think we all have moments like that, moments where we want to see a sign from God; a moment where we need to be reassured. Moses' moment came when God almost abandoned him to lead his people through the wilderness alone. In that moment Moses wanted to know that God was really with him so he asked God to show him his glory. God's response:

Exodus 33:19
And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

In couple of sentences God teaches Moses what his glory looks like. God's glory is the goodness we see in this world, the mercy and compassion we experience, and the proclamation of His name. It may not be as flashy as a pillar of fire or as fantastic as the red sea parting, but it is personal, long lasting, and it is how God shows his glory to his people.

In essence, God was reassuring Moses that he was always with him. And that is God's reassurance to us.

God's blessing and protection over you and your family as you seek the see the glory of God in your life, and I look forward to worshipping with you online this Sunday.
