TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - May 19, 2021

To Be Honest
Today is May 19, 2021
Welcome to your mid-week!
When Jesus preached on oaths in Matthew 5, he wasn't saying that taking an oath was bad, what he was saying was that we need to be honest. Jesus was focusing on the principle of honesty.
And scripture makes it clear that we should not lie (Leviticus 9:11), that we need to speak truth to each other (Zechariah 8:16, Ephesians 4:25), and that God, not only detests lying lips (Proverbs 12:22), but he hates a false witness who pours out lies (Proverbs 6:16-19).
As people of God we need to be known as being honest people.
But what about the white lies that we tell each other? What about those social, societal, professional, cultural, and political 'little' lies that we just accept? Those lies where we say we aren't hurting anyone or where we say we are really protecting someone?
Well, the word of God demands that we wrestle with those lies as well. Instead of blindly accepting what other people accept as 'okay,' the word of God asks us to question whether they really are okay to God?
Are my exaggerations just good fun? Or am I being perceived as someone who is untrustworthy? Are my white lies really protecting someone? Or are they selflessly motivated? Am I lying to avoid an awkward situation? Or am I lying to avoid the awkwardness of dealing with my sin?
There is a reason why the devil is called the father of lies. As people of God we need to wrestle with which father we are following and whether we really are people of the God of truth.
God's blessing and protection over you as you wrestle with the principle of honesty and I look forward to worshiping with you in spirit this Sunday.

- Cell Group Leaders Needed!
- We are looking to create a ‘Singles & Professional’ (S&P for short) cell group to launch in September and we need leaders!
- Needs the group have made:
- Someone who understands this particular stage of life, though does not feel the need to teach what is the "right" way to live this stage of life
- Someone who is hospitable and able to create a space (both digital and personal) for members to gather and do life together, though not necessarily in their own home
- Because it has been over a year since members have had a community, it is important for the leader to allow time for fellowship so that the members can get reacquainted
- The leader should have a good rapport with most of the members
- Ideally, the group would be led by 2 people (1 woman and 1 man), either a husband and wife or 2 single members; this will ensure that if there are deeper conversations that take place, members can have someone they may feel more comfortable with
- Expectations of the leaders:
- A space where our members can be unapologetic and share about their experiences; re-establishing a cell and community for young singles
- A community where members can be encouraged by peers
- Meet every other week, ideally meet over a meal
- TFPC will cover the cost of meals, curriculum, supplies, and trips for the S&P Cell Group
- Please contact Pastor Frank at frankkim1@gmail.com if interested!
- May 21-23 (Fri-Sun) - Pastor Frank will be away on a conference.
