TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 29, 2020

Just Goals

Today is July 29, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

As people made in the image of God it makes sense that we would want to fight injustice, that we would want unjust things to be just, that we would want things to be fair, because God is just. It is one of his attributes.

In fact, showing compassion on those who are experiencing the injustice of this sinful world is how we honor God (Proverbs 15:31) and show that God's love is in us (1 John 3:17).

However, the goal of fighting injustice is not to win. No. The goal is to teach people about Jesus.

The goal is to teach where justice comes, how we are all guilty of punishment because of sin, how our judgment is paid for by God substituting Jesus in our place, and how God now shows us his mercy and love through his justice.

The goal is to teach people about Jesus. 

I think when we hear of injustice happening, we naturally get emotional and want to do something. That was King David's reaction when he heard of injustice being done in 2 Samuel 12. But, as the prophet Nathan reminded him, every act of injustice should cause us to first reflect on our self. Then, once we are sure we will not act as hypocrites, our actions should be pure, steadfast, and sustained with the goal being to "teach transgressors [God's] ways, so that sinners will turn back to [Him]." (Psalm 51:13)

Yes, by all means, honor God and show that the love of God is in you by showing compassion on those who are experiencing the injustice of this world, but the goal is to teach people about Jesus. 

That is how we become a community that breathes the gospel.

God's health and protection over you and your family and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.

All The Time

Today is July 22, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

All of us experience the symptoms of sin in this world: the evil done by people, the thorns and thistles from the earth, the bad days. Even Jesus experienced it. You want to talk about bad things happening to good people? The worst thing happened to the best person. This is all because of sin.

Well, God is so good that he gives us the cure to the disease of sin.

God made a plan from before creation, implemented it through Jesus Christ, showed it to us through his word, and, in that plan, deals directly with the cause and effects of sin. God redeems us, defeats Satan, and restores all of creation. 

Yes, it took great cost - the death of his one and only son to pay the penalty of our sin - but, God is that good to us because he loves us that much.

The good thing he does now is to give us time to learn and process and make the decision to choose his love or not.

Sure, when we experience the symptoms of this world we may feel like God is slow but, 2 Peter 3:9 tells us

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Ultimately God wants everyone to be saved. God did good work to save us, good work to prepare a place for us where there is no pain or sorrow or tears, good work to give this to us as a gift despite our sin and rebellion, and now God is good to give us this time to choose for ourselves.

Truly God is good. 

And, hopefully, as you mediate on God's love and faithfulness and goodness, you can say 'all the time' after that statement.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 15, 2020

To Love the World

Today is July 15, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

Titus 3:3 reminds us that hate has a spiritual source, and that is sin. That means, to truly love the world, we need to have a spiritual solution to that problem of hate. And that solution is

the love of Jesus.

Jesus went to Jews and gentiles.
Jesus went to Romans and lepers.
Jesus went to the broken and the outcast, healed the sick, and taught to the masses.
Jesus spoke with both Nicodemus and prostitutes, Pontius Pilate and tax collectors.
Jesus went to children and orphans, widows and fisherman, kings and servants and everyone in between.
Jesus washed the feet of those he led.
Jesus forgave his enemies.
Jesus died for the world. 

Why? John 3:16 tells us: "For God so loved..."

And that is how we can love the world. We may not have the capacity to love sinful people, but Jesus does. And the more we draw closer to the love of Jesus the more he is able to stretch our capacity to love.

This is why Apostle Paul's prayer for the church of Ephesus was:

Ephesians 3:17b-19
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

The more we grasp Jesus' love, the more hate will be defeated. The more we grasp Jesus' love, the more we can love the world. 

God's blessing to you as you draw nearer to the solution - to the love of Jesus - and I look forward to worshiping with you all online this Sunday.

A Step of Fatih

Welcome to your mid-week!

Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that God loves it when we act in faith. Big or small, there are many ways we can act in faith; many ways we can be God-fearing, people of integrity to the people we interact with and the responsibilities we have each day. Examples of people being faithful are found all over the bible:

Moses was faithful in God's house.
David and Isaiah’s scribes were faithful in their professions. 
Nehemiah appointed various people who were faithful with their money.
Hanani and Hananiah were faithful leaders.
Lydia was faithful in opening up her home.
Samuel was a faithful child.
Onesimus and Silvanus were faithful brothers.
Daniel was faithful in front of his enemies.

Acting in faith is something that we should naturally do as we learn more about God's faithfulness and experience it in our lives. Knowing leads to trusting, which leads to acting in faith. And that is what all Christians should be striving for because that is what pleases God.

So, to encourage us to act in faith more, I would like to ask a couple of things from you.

1. Can you send me a picture or small video clip of either a) and example of God being faithful in your life, or b) you acting in faith. We are in month 5 of our pandemic and I want to create a slide show movie showing our community. I think our community would be blessed and encourage to see you walking in faith and you seeing them.
2. This Sunday we will offer the online worship service via Zoom. You need to click HERE and register (Zoom will be offered for both services eventhough the registration has only one time stamp). Once you register a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you with the Zoom info. Zoom offers us the ability to worship and pass the peace face-to-face, which is another way we can encourage one another to act in faith.  

God's blessing and protection over you and your family and I look forward to seeing you all onsite or online this Sunday.

  • On-site Worship for KM, EM, and Youth Worship has begun at 25% capacity. For us, that is a max of 23 people per service.
    • The Department of Public Health updated the Covid-19 Industry Guidance for Places of Worship and Providers of Religious Services and Cultural Ceremonies on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The key change from the last time they gave this out is this: “Places of worship must therefore discontinue singing and chanting.” The leadership of our church will make a decision on this order this coming week. For this past Sunday, we praised without singing. 
    • In general, a video of what to expect can be found HERE 
    • Online registration to reserve seating ahead of time can be found HERE
    • Please come 20 minutes early for temperature check, registration, and pew assignment.
    • Currently, registration and pew assignment will be done at the EM welcome desk next to the main entrance of the EM Chapel. Location of the EM Chapel can be found HERE
    • Registration is required to communicate if someone is found to have covid-19.
    • A general map of where to enter the chapel, what pews will be available, and where to exit can be found HERE
    • Masks will be required at all times.
    • Spill over room will be in the cry room. 
  • EM will continue to live-stream both the 9:45am service and the 11:30am service.
  • Children's worship will open up later at a predetermined time. Love Ministry and Pre-K worship will open up at a later date, after Children's Worship. 
  • Cell-Groups will continue to meet virtually until a predetermined time.

My Cup Overflows

Welcome to July and your mid-week!

I believe poetry measures love better than math. I mean, take this from Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:


and compare that to: 

9x-7i>3(3x-7u)

Exactly. Not even close. ;)

Well, if poetry measures love better than math, then how do you measure the love of the Lord? Well, Psalm 42:7 has an answer. In short, God's love is measured by our

sadness.

No matter how empty we may feel, God's love is able to fill us up. In fact, he's able to overflow our cup. 

What Apostle Paul hopes for the church...

Ephesians 3:18-19
[I pray that you] may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

...the author of Psalm 42 experiences.

Deep cries out to deep and is satisfied. The deep of the author's need cries out to the deep of God's fullness and is not left wanting. No matter how desperate or dire, God is able to pout in us hope - overflowing hope - because he loves us that much.
