Just Goals
Today is July 29, 2020
Welcome to your mid-week!
As people made in the image of God it makes sense that we would want to fight injustice, that we would want unjust things to be just, that we would want things to be fair, because God is just. It is one of his attributes.
In fact, showing compassion on those who are experiencing the injustice of this sinful world is how we honor God (Proverbs 15:31) and show that God's love is in us (1 John 3:17).
However, the goal of fighting injustice is not to win. No. The goal is to teach people about Jesus.
The goal is to teach where justice comes, how we are all guilty of punishment because of sin, how our judgment is paid for by God substituting Jesus in our place, and how God now shows us his mercy and love through his justice.
The goal is to teach people about Jesus.
I think when we hear of injustice happening, we naturally get emotional and want to do something. That was King David's reaction when he heard of injustice being done in 2 Samuel 12. But, as the prophet Nathan reminded him, every act of injustice should cause us to first reflect on our self. Then, once we are sure we will not act as hypocrites, our actions should be pure, steadfast, and sustained with the goal being to "teach transgressors [God's] ways, so that sinners will turn back to [Him]." (Psalm 51:13)
Yes, by all means, honor God and show that the love of God is in you by showing compassion on those who are experiencing the injustice of this world, but the goal is to teach people about Jesus.
That is how we become a community that breathes the gospel.
God's health and protection over you and your family and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.
