TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 13, 2024

The Importance of Authentic Faith

Today is March 13, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been away on vacation and our new Youth Pastor - Pastor Moses Rim - has been preaching in my stead. And this past Sunday he preached on the importance of having an authentic faith.

Speaking of the two blind men who were healed by Jesus in Matthew 9, Pastor Moses said,

“It seems that these men were not truly spiritually transformed and changed by Jesus. Yes, the miracle happened. Yes, they’re ecstatic with joy. But did something change in the inside of them? Did they repent before Jesus? Do they truly consider Jesus to be the Messiah over their lives? No. They got healed, they were excited, and they went spreading the news about their miracle. [For them] It’s not about Jesus being Christ, it’s about their own miracle.”

And from their bad example, Pastor Moses challenged us with what God really wants from us:

“Jesus wants a lasting relationship with people after the problem is solved after the healing comes…”

Sometimes in the midst of all the distractions and videos and stories and shorts and commentaries out there about what we are supposed to be doing as Christians and what God wants for us to do, we forget that simple foundational truth:

God wants relationship with us.

God’s blessing as you think about how your relationship with God is, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 21, 2024

The Faith of Cornelius and Peter

Today is February 21, 2024

During the Super Bowl a Christian commercial aired displaying multiple pairs of stereotypical adversaries washing each other feet. You can find that commercial HERE

In its message of loving ones neighbor we get the perfect example of Peter’s faith toward Cornelius.

For you see, from Peter’s Jewish background, Cornelius was a gentile. Cornelius was unclean. Cornelius was someone Peter would never talk with let alone enter his home to meet.

However, when God directed Peter to Cornelius’s home - to share the gospel message to someone he viewed as ‘unclean’ - that is what Peter did in faith.

And Cornelius, to his credit, acted in faith by being willing to hear and act on the message of Peter. In fact, so faithful was Cornelius that he invited all of his friends and relatives to hear from Peter.

And the fruit of their faith? Salvation for Cornelius and all in his house.

And that fruit of Cornelius’ and Peter’s faith will rock the foundations of the early church and will continue to resonate with every gentile believer today.

That is what we see from Cornelius’ and Peter’s faith.

God’s blessing upon you as you mediate on the faith of Cornelius and Peter, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 14, 2024

The Faith of Ananias

Today is February 14, 2024

Ananias’ faith is one of those acts of faith that is not directly stated in the passage. However, when you think about what Jesus asks him to do and his initial response to the request, you can piece together his act of faith.

And boy is his act of faith difficult.

I mean, here was the persecutor of Christians before him. The one who had dragged men and women out of their homes and tossed them into jail. Surely, if you were a Christian, you would not talk to such a man let alone give him any kind of greeting. The mere sight of him would cause Christians to run the opposite direction.

But what does Ananias do? Ananias greets him with the phrase ‘Brother.’

Despite all that Saul had done, Ananias had forgiven him. And this forgiveness was not asked for nor was it stated. This act was done in the heart of Ananias and the evidence of that forgiveness is found in the greeting Ananias gives him.

And that was an act of faith, an act of faith that was only done because Ananias was standing, just a verse earlier, before Jesus; standing before the presence of God.

And when we live that kind of life - living in his presence, living ‘Coram Deo’ - then there is no higher goal than to give him glory and honor.

This is how Ananias was able to do his act of faith. His act of forgiveness was not for him or for Saul, it was an act of worship; an offering of sacrifice onto God.

God’s blessings upon you as you meditate on Ananias’ faith. And I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 7, 2024

The Faith of Philip

Today is February 7, 2024

Who was the last person to strike a conversation with you? Who invited you to a lunch or a coffee and shared about their faith experience with you?

In a way, that person was showing the faith of Philip.

And that kind of faith is something we all have experienced in one form or another. It is something that is incredibly familiar and something we don’t often associate with an act of faith.

But it is, and it is an incredible act of faith.

The end result of Philip striking a conversation with someone he did not know, saying yes to an invitation, and sharing from his life experience, was that person being saved.

That’s the potential end result that a simple conversation can lead to.

Meaning, Philip’s faith is something that is incredibly important. It is something that builds the church and saves lives. And, since it is something all of us have experienced done toward us and is something every one of us can do, what more motivation do we need to show it?

God’s blessing upon you as you mediate on Philip’s faith, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 31, 2024

The Faith of Stephen

Today is January 31, 2024

Stephen’s faith is the faith you show when you know you are being killed for your faith. It is the faith of a martyr.

But, in a simplified way, it is the faith you show when you know you are going to lose.

Jesus tells us that we are blessed when people persecute us (Matthew 5:11). Why are we blessed? Because every loss - whether of ones body or ones ego - is an opportunity to show our faith.

Are we not blessed when given opportunity?

Instead of anger and frustration, Stephen showed compassion and care. Instead of hopelessness and sadness, Stephen showed confidence and peace. When everyone expected Stephen to cry out for the injustice he was experiencing, Stephen, instead, cried out for his countrymen to be saved.

Sometimes the faith we show when we lose resonates more than the faith we show when we win.

And that is the faith Stephen resonated to the very end.

Acts 7:60

Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

God’s blessing as you mediate on Stephen’s faith and the faith we show when you lose, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
