The Faith of Apostle Paul

Today May 15, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

All throughout his missionary journeys Apostle Paul’s act of faith was to share the gospel message. With great humility he did not hesitate to preach the gospel to everyone. This is the act of faith that all Christians are called to do.

If we who are Christian do not do it, we compromise the message of the gospel.

I mean, is the ability to live again after we die in a place not broken by sin the most amazing and worth while message to share? Or is it really,

meh.

I mean, is the ability to live in a place without all the struggle and pain and hardship and sadness and frustration and disappointment and depression and agony and sickness and disease and death and war, the most amazing message to share? Or is it really,

whatevers.

Do we really believe in the heaven that God describes to us in the bible? Do we really believe in the life that we will live after we die, as shown to us via Jesus’ resurrection?

For Apostle Paul, he fully believed it in and that is what compelled him to act in faith and share the gospel with everyone. And that, that is the faith that resonates.

God’s blessing upon you as you mediate on heaven and the gospel message, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

The Faith of the Seven Sons of Sceva

Today May 8, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

The Seven Sons of Sceva were Jewish Exorcists who saw the effective work of Apostle Paul in exorcising demons. And so, in faith, they began saying his same words in exorcising demons. However, that faith ultimately led to them being spiritually attacked where they were left

humiliated and wounded.

The Seven Sons of Sceva had failed to realize that it was not Apostle Paul driving out demons with a spell, it was Jesus driving out demons through Apostle Paul.

The bible makes it clear that, as Christians, we cannot be possessed by demons. However, we can be influenced and tempted and attacked.

Now, if we put our faith in Jesus Christ - submitting to him and resisting the devil - then we have nothing to fear because, as 1 John 4:4 tells us:

1 John 4:4

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

However, if we put our faith in anyone or anything else, than we risk the same outcome as the Seven Sons of Sceva.

God’s blessing as you mediate on whether you are putting your faith in Jesus Christ or in something or someone else, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

The Faith of the Aquila and Priscilla

Today May 1, 2024

Welcome to May and your mid-week!

The faith of Aquila and Priscilla was to help Apostle Paul in his missionary journey. They supported and empowered him by giving him a place to stay while he worked. From this act of faith Apostle Paul was able to spend a year and a half in the city of Corinth.

Now, for us to do their act of faith is not hard per say, it is only hard because many of us have already tried to show that same faith but have not had the results that they did.

If everyone we helped and supported and empowered gave us results like Apostle Paul, then it would be easy to help more people. However, many of us have been burned by our acts of faith.

Jesus does tell us to have compassion on people but, at the same time, to have discernment when dealing with people.

Apostle Paul made it clear that we are not to be taken advantage of nor empower an irresponsible lifestyle.

Clearly prayer and wisdom must be done before helping or empowering anyone.

However, our acts of faith are not supposed to come from our own ability and knowledge. They should be our response in gratitude to the great love of God for us.

The more we know of God’s love, the more we will be compelled to show that kind of love to others in the practical way that Aquila and Priscilla show us, regardless of the outcome.

And, ultimately, that is our challenge.

God’s blessing as you meditate on the help, support, and empowerment you received from others, and the convictions that come to your heart in who to show the faith of Aquila and Priscilla to, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 24, 2024

The Faith of the Berean Jews

Today is April 24, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

The faith of the Berean Jews is more than just reading and studying and memorizing scripture. It is their relationship with scripture that is their act of faith. And it is a that relationship that scripture calls us to have with it.

Yes, the bible tells us to read it and study it and memorize it. But the bible also tells us

to sing scripture,

to pray scripture,

to practice scripture,

to meditate on scripture,

to treasure scripture,

to hear scripture,

to obey scripture,

to discern scripture,

to proclaim scripture,

to recount scripture,

to lament with scripture,

to exhort scripture

to teach scripture,

to comfort with scripture,

to rebuke with scripture,

to absolve with scripture,

& to encourage with scripture.

Having a relationship with scripture is more than just opening up a bible and reading it. It is about having it be active in your life; something that is a part of you; that defines your very identity.

That’s the faith that the Berean Jews show us, and that is the faith that resonates.

God’s blessing upon you as you think about your relationship with scripture, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 17, 2024

The Faith of Timothy

Today is April 17, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

Timothy saying ‘yes’ to go on missions with Apostle Paul is the start of a beautiful friendship that will not only go to impact that area for Christ, but lay the foundation for all churches up to the present day.

However, in order to go on that mission trip, Timothy needed to be circumcised. Timothy needed to deny himself for the good of others. This act of ‘self-denial’ is an act of faith.

Jesus tells his disciples to deny themselves and follow him. Apostle Paul teaches how self-denial helps us to know Christ more. Clearly self-denial is for our benefit spiritually. This is why we practice spiritual disciplines and why we strive to put to death our earthly nature.

However, Timothy teaches us that self-denial is also a way to love someone.

That, when we look to the good of someone else over our own self interests, that that is an act of love that can bridge gaps and reach people for Christ.

And, while Timothy’s example is the extreme, there are many ways to practice this kind of faith.

Giving to the poor is a form of self-denial.

Living modestly rather than indulging in excessive luxury is form of self-denial.

Adopting a different culture than your own is a form of self-denial.

In fact, all of us practice this kind of faith every time we attend a Korean American Immigrant Church.

God’s blessing upon you as you meditate on self denial and on loving people different than you, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
