TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 24, 2024

Resolving to the One

Today July 24, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

When we are saved, we become the temple of the Spirit of God. He resides in us always. Meaning, at any time, we can feel the presence of God. However, may times we don’t. This is why God told the Psalmist of Psalm 46 to

be still.

To

be still

is not to quiet oneself before the Lord. The original word is to let go, to weaken, to give up. What is pictured is a person swinging his sword in combat against another person and someone else coming up to that person and saying to stop swinging; to stop fighting; to

be still.

And when we release that tension with the Lord, that is when we experience God’s presence again. For, it is not God who leaves us or abandons us when we don’t feel his presence. It is us who turn our backs on him.

God’s blessing upon you as you meditate on what it means surrendering to the Lord, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 17, 2024

Shining Like Stars

Today July 17, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14,16 -

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden…In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus is talking about how our actions can evangelize to others.

Apostle Paul takes this analogy on light and evangelism and gives us a specific action we can do that will make us, as he says in Philippians 2:15, ‘shine…like stars in the sky.’ The action?

To not complain.

Ever since the fall has mankind complained about something. Considering how sin rips us away from being with the all powerful, all knowing, all loving God; how it forces us to be banished from paradise, to now work the land; how it now has us experience death - complaining makes sense.

And, for the non-Christian, this world is as close to heaven as they will get so, by all means, when this world reveals itself to not be heaven, complain. But, for the Christian, we should

not complain.

For the Christian, this world is as close to hell that we’ll ever get. Thanks be to God for our rescue via Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God for heaven and the resurrection and being called his children.

Yes, our sinful nature might tempt us to complain like God’s people did back in the day of Moses. However, by

not complaining,

we can show people who Jesus Christ is. I mean, if all the world is complaining, what better way to stand out and shine a light then by

not complaining.

People in this world need the light of Christ in the midst of the darkness of sin and death. They need to truth of the gospel in the midst of the lies of Satan. They need to know of the hope that we have in Christ in the face of the despair.

And, ultimately, that is why we should

not complain.

God’s blessing as you meditate on your complaints and on shining the light of Christ, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 10, 2024

Instructions for the Orchestra

Today July 10, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

Many people come to church thinking that it is kind of like a performing arts center. The praise team is the orchestra, the praise leader and/or the pastor is the conductor, and they are the audience. However, that is not biblically correct. The praise team and the pastor are the conductor, the people are the orchestra, and the audience is God.

God is the audience. And what does he want? What does he expect from us?

Worship.

And when I say

Worship

I mean the broken and contrite, humble, repentant, submissive, and surrendering type of worship that is in the Spirit and in truth. And, honestly, to get to that point is hard. This is why we have corporate

worship.

The location helps to take away distractions and remind us of why we praise and worship. The praise team and message help to lead us away from ourselves to God. The people around encourage us to get to that place of true

worship.

And the longer we stay in that place the more the Holy Spirit convicts us and comforts us, the more we are able to realign our priorities with God, and the more we are able to see the big picture and once more acknowledge God as Lord over our lives.

From there, we will be able to praise God for even the hardship that we face in this world and trust that God is working for our good.

And that’s the joy of true

worship

God’s blessing as you meditate on what it means to be the orchestra, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 3, 2024

Golden

Today July 36, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

History has given a title to the command of Jesus to ‘do to other what you would have them do to you’ as the ‘Golden Rule.’

The rule is simple, easy to understand, and elevates the dignity of all people while, at the same time, emphasizing empathy and reciprocity. It is a positive, pro-active rule that uses our own desires to promote godly behavior.

All of that in 11 words. No wonder it is called ‘Golden.’

However, contextually, the rule is about showing love as a father would show a child or a mother to an infant. The ‘Golden Rule’ is very much like ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’ And, for the Christian it is not supposed to be optional. The ‘Golden Rule’ is the narrow way.

John 13:35 tells us “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

1 John 4:20 tells us: “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.”

In the midst of such divisive times, it is this kind of love that shows the world who our God is.

And the beauty of trying to show this kind of love is that either we try and fail, thus appreciating the love of God for us more - leading to deeper worship; Or we try and succeed, thus God’s Spirit shines through, He is glorified, others are edified, and the world sees Christ in us.

Either way, the results are golden.

God’s blessing upon you as you mediate on the Golden Rule and who to show it to, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JUNE 26, 2024

Our Lord’s Community

Today June 26, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

When we have disagreements with people at church, our current Christian culture says that it is okay to leave the church. That it is better to not argue and fight but to find another church in which to worship God. I mean, we are not losing faith - we are just choosing to worship elsewhere, right?

But such thinking goes against countless scriptural versus that tell us the opposite. Romans 12:10-16 alone tells us to

10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.”

There are two many influences that say a divided church is ok.

Community is not found, it is built. As the bible says, we are like ‘living stones…being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood… (1 Peter 2:5). We cannot say to someone that we don’t need them (1 Corinthians 12:21). Even the hardest of moments help us to become more sanctified and appreciative of the work of Christ (Proverbs 27:17).

So, in the midst of all the influences breaking apart the church, Apostle Paul’s appeal is an appeal to us. 1 Corinthians 1:10 – “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

God’s blessing upon you as you wrestle with your place in the Lord’s Community, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
