TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 22, 2021

The Coming Love

Today is December 22, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

Christmas is the time when we remember the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. When the angels appeared to the shepherds to bring them 'the good news that will cause great joy for all the people' (Luke 2:10), they were referring to what Jesus' coming would bring. And boy is it good news.

Jesus' coming brings the hope of eternal life.
Jesus' coming brings peace with our maker.
Jesus' coming brings the joy of the resurrection.
Jesus' coming brings the love of God to us sinners.

In a world broken by sin as evident by the current pandemic and by the death we all will face, truly Christmas is the good news that should give us all great joy.

God's blessings upon you as you meditate on the reason for the season, and I look forward to worshiping with you all this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 15, 2021

The Coming Joy

Today is December 15, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

Jesus Christ's coming and his work on the cross does more than redeem us from the curse of death. He also redeems us from all the curses of sin, including the curse against our bodies. Meaning, since Jesus is our pioneer (Hebrews 12:2) and first fruit (1 Corinthians 15:20), Jesus shows us what our future will be like.

In Jesus' resurrection we see Jesus' own body restored. It is his body - familiar and recognizable - but, at the same time different. Apostle Paul says that the resurrected body is raised imperishable, in glory, and in power.

What's more, after Jesus' resurrection, we see Jesus use this body for 40 days, giving us a glimpse of what our future life will be like.

In those 40 days we see Jesus walk and talk and eat. We see him listen and think and teach. In general, Jesus' 40 days in his resurrected body is quite normal to what we do now. And the beauty of his example is that Jesus appears to the people he had relationship with before he died. He appears to people he once knew and, in his interactions with them, picks up right where he left off.

This is an incredibly unexpected gift for us.

For, not only has Jesus redeemed us spiritually, but he redeems us physically, giving us the unexpected joy of continuing those relationships that we thought were once gone. This is why Jesus' coming is the coming of joy. It is the coming of the removal of the curse and the joy of eternal life.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the resurrection and eternal life, and I look forward to worshipping with you Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 08, 2021

The Coming Peace

Today is December 8, 2021

Welcome to your mid-week!

One of the things this pandemic showed us is that there is no lasting peace here on earth. It did not matter how rich or powerful or healthy or beautiful or strong you are. This pandemic disrupted your peace showing that circumstantial peace is both fragile and fleeting.

And this worldly peace that is dependent on circumstances, is one of the evidences that we are separated from God. This is why Isaiah tells us that there is no peace for us (Isaiah 48:22) and that we cannot rest (Isaiah 57:20).

True abiding, enduring peace is only possible with God. It is only possible when we are right with our maker.

Praise God then that, even though we rebelled against God, he doesn't rebel against us. On the contrary, he sends his son, Jesus Christ, to bring peace to our relationship. Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law of sin and death, reconciling us with our creator, thus making peace.

And this peace is not dependent on circumstances. It transcends circumstances. It transcends even our own understanding.

Acquiring peace in this world involves being selfish about it. Godly peace is about denying ourselves, taking up our cross daily, and following Jesus.

Acquiring peace in this world involves working for it. Godly peace is about surrendering our lives to the lordship of Christ.

And the beauty of God's peace is that trickles down to all the other conflicts in our lives, bringing peace internally, interpersonally, and giving hope for peace to all of mankind.

This is the peace that God gives us through his son Jesus Christ. This is why we celebrate Christmas and Advent. Because, this is the season where we remember the coming of peace.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the Prince of Peace who reconciled God with us sinners, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 1, 2021

Worshiping the Perfect Hope

Today is December 1, 2021

Welcome to December and your mid-week!

This past Sunday Pastor Diana kicked off the Advent Season with the lighting of the Advent Wreath.

Candle light is something both simple yet wonderful, something ordinary yet available to all. And that is the hope of Advent - the hope of Jesus Christ.

And in her message of the perfect hope that we have in Jesus, Pastor Diana concluded with the poem by Howard Thurman called "I Will Light Candles This Christmas" which says:

I will light Candles this Christmas,
Candles of joy despite all the sadness,
Candles of hope where despair keeps watch,
Candles of courage for fears ever present,
Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days,
Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens,
Candles of love to inspire all my living,
Candles that will burn all year long.

In Jesus we have the perfect everlasting hope. A hope that burns, not just all year long, but our entire lives.

God's blessing upon you as you center yourself and prepare yourself to once again remember the coming of Jesus Christ, and I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.
