TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 13, 2022

The Anticipated Celebration

Today is April 13, 2022

Welcome to your mid-Passion week!

What God's people were doing on Palm Sunday was basically an act of faith, anticipating the victory to come. They worshiped and celebrated believing Jesus would save them.

Now, their expectation was that Jesus would physically save them. And, so, when he did not, you can see how these same people who welcomed him as a king, screamed that he be crucified on Friday morning.

However, while their expectation was wrong, their initial reaction to Jesus' coming was not.

Jesus does save us spiritually. As evident by the resurrection, Jesus conquers death. Meaning the other victory to come - the victory over Satan - will occur one day. In fact, we see the celebration in Revelation 7:9-10, with countless people worshipping God and celebrating; waving palm branches in their hands just like the people of God did when they celebrated Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem.

If Jesus conquered the grave, so that victory over sin and Satan will also come one day.

In the meantime we need to act just as the people of God did on Palm Sunday. We need to continue to act in faith, anticipating that victory to come.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the victory we have in Christ and the coming celebration, and I look forward to worshipping with you in the Main Sanctuary at 11:30am for our Easter Joint Worship Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 06, 2022

The Cross of Invitation

Today is April 6, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

The story of the bible is basically a 3 Act love story.

Act 1: We are in relationship with God.
Act 2: Sin separates that relationship.
Act 3: God does everything he can do to restore that relationship.

And the cross is both the climax of his actions as well as his invitation to us. It is his valentine, his love letter; both the representation of how much he loves us and the clearest image of God's desire for us.

God's passion is for us

and he shows that by paying the price needed to restore our relationship.

But God's action is not the end of the story. The story hits its climax with Jesus on the cross and 3 days later with the empty tomb, and then suddenly, in a plot twist, there is a change of perspective and the story turns to us, with God's invitation presented to us like a cliff-hanger...

And so, what is your answer? Will you accept God's love or reject it? Will you choose to be in relationship with God or not?

Because, ultimately, that's what the cross of God is. It is invitation by God to have a relationship with him.

And so, here we are. The music has stopped, the camera has turn to you, and now all of heaven waits with bated breath for your response...

...

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the invitation of God, and I look forward to worshipping with you next Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 30, 2022

The Cross of Exchange

Today is March 30, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

What is the joy of being a Christian?

The joy is that our shame changes to self-worth; how I am a child of God no matter what I do nor what is done to me.

The joy of is that our fear changes to courage; how even if this body is destroyed, I know my eternity is secure.

The joy is that our disgrace changes to glory,
our discouragement changes to hope,
our anxiety changes to confidence, and
our guilt changes to freedom.

That is the joy of being a Christian.

And that joy is only possible because an exchange took place on the cross. On the cross our garment of sin was exchanged for Jesus' garment of righteousness. On the cross a royal crown was exchanged for a crown of thorns.

And that act of love - to pay the penalty of our sin so that we can become, in Christ, the righteousness of God - is why we worship. It is the reason why - no matter what happens in this world - we can still come together and sing praises to our King.

All because of that exchange that took place on the cross.

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on Jesus and the exchange that took place on that cross, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 23, 2022

The Cross of the King

Today is March 23, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

There are many signs that are given in scripture. The rainbow is a sign. Circumcision is a sign. In many ways, communion and baptism are signs.

And, like every sign, a message is given and a couple of questions must be asked. Do I understand the sign? And, is that sign true?

On the cross that Jesus was crucified there was a sign that declared Jesus as the Messiah; that declared Jesus as King.

Now, for the chief priests, they understood the sign and believed it to be false. This is why they wanted the sign changed. That's how they responded to Jesus' sign. For one criminal being crucified with Jesus, he responded differently. He understood the sign and believed it to be true. And, from that sign he took the appropriate action to repent and request Jesus to remember him as he entered into his kingdom.

One sign, two different choices. And, every time we look at the cross, that same sign is there - implied through the horizontal and vertical lines. And, just like the chief priests and the criminal, we need to make a decision on that sign for us.

Do we understand that sign and is that sign true? Is Jesus King in our life?

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on the kingship of Jesus in your life, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 16, 2022

The Cross of Choice

Today is March 16, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

I think we all have made bad decisions in our days.

We all have - at one time or another - chosen to build our house on the sand of this world instead of the rock of Jesus Christ.

We all have - at one time or another - chosen to be devoted to and serve money over God, even though the bible tells us that we cannot serve both.

We all have - at one time or another - chosen to be like Adam and Eve, to be like Lot, to be like King Saul, to be like the criminals hanging beside Jesus.

We all have made bad choices. And, like the father to his prodigal son, God lets us. God loves us so much as to give us the ability to choose even if the consequences of that choice are disastrous. That is God's act of love to give us choice.

However, that act of love is not the only act of love God shows us.

For, just like the father of the prodigal son who did not give up on his son but waited for him to come back and welcomed him with open arms, so God loves us the same. God does not give up on us no matter how many bad choices we make. God loves us so much that he waits for us and, when we make the right choice to come back to him, God welcomes us back with open arms.

That's the love that God shows us and that is the love Jesus showed that one criminal who chose to repent and seek salvation from him on the cross.

For, despite cursing him just hours earlier, when that criminal chose to repent and follow Jesus as Lord, Jesus welcomed him home.

And if we choose Jesus, that is what he does for us.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the tremendous choices that you have each day, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
