TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 9, 2022

Reverent Actions

Today is November 9, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

Apostle Paul's seemingly impossible command to "rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances" comes from a place of reverence to our Lord.

For Apostle Paul, in light of God's awesome power and amazing grace to give us eternal life, the resurrection, and the second coming of Christ, our only response should be to please the Lord by revering him. In his letter to the church of Thessalonica, Apostle Paul says that this is why we should 'be sanctified' and 'live a holy life,' why we should 'love one another,' and why we should not 'grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.'

It is in the hope of death being defeated and the coming of that new heaven and new earth that should drive us to revere and please him.

I mean, what should our response be when we receive such an amazing gift from our father in Heaven through Jesus Christ? What should we do for any amazing gift given? Well to...

rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

This is why these are God's will for all of us in Christ Jesus.

God's blessings upon you as you mediate on the power and grace of our Lord for you, the motivation to revering him, and his will for all of us, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2, 2022

Of Justice and Faithfulness

Today is November 2, 2022

Welcome to November and your mid-week!

Within the pages of Lamentations are some of the most horrible descriptions of what happens during a siege. From the devastation and slaughter of every type of person, to the cannibalism of children by mothers.

Why is this book here?

Well, on one hand, the book of Lamentations is about the justice of God. ~800 years of disobedience led to this moment where God's people were forcibly exiled to Babylon. What is described in this book was the just judgment that God's people deserved from centuries of atrocities; a judgment he told them would happen if they continued to disobey.

On the other hand, the book of Lamentations is about God's faithfulness. How, despite his people being disobedient for centuries, God still wants to be in relationship with them. How God does not want to destroy his people, but to bring them back to him.

God is faithful. By his great love we are not consumed. God’s compassion never fails and his mercies are new each morning.

And so, in the words of Hosea, "Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds."

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on the justice and faithfulness of God, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 26, 2022

True and False Guilt

Today is October 26, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

In some ways, guilt can be good.

True guilt brings about Godly sorrow which leads us to repentance. Apostle John tells us that one of the conditions for fellowship with God is confession. To truly experience the depths of God's love takes the confession of our sin so that we can experience the joy of his forgiveness.

This is why true guilt can be a good thing. The solution to true guilt is not denial or celebration but forgiveness. The solution to true guilt is not found by our actions, it is only found in Jesus.

So, in some ways, true guilt can be good. But, in some ways, guilt can also be bad. Especially if it is false guilt.

When we feel trapped in guilt. When we beat ourselves over the sin that we did. When we believe our guilt is needed to keep us in check or to serve as a way to punish us because we deserve it, then that is false guilt.

And false guilt can come by either how we were raised or from the accuser, the Devil, himself.

The cure for false guilt? The gospel. Christ's work is greater than our sin. In Christ, not only are we not condemned by our sin, but we are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Every time our false understanding of forgiveness or the enemy whispers in our ears lies that go against the word of God, then that is when we should look toward the cross and remember Christ's work for us.

We are loved. If we confess our sin, we are forgiven completely.

And so, whether the guilt you experience is true guilt that leads to repentance or false guilt that needs to be remedied by the gospel, let us seek the Lord. Let us pray a prayer of repentance as well as a prayer that the gospel would be at the heart of our being. For it is through God's forgiveness where we will find peace.

God's blessing upon you as you think about your guilt, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 19, 2022

Wait for the Lord

Today is October 19, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

Biblically speaking, waiting for the Lord is not a passive action. It is an active one.

In Psalm 27 David reminds us that to wait for the Lord means going back to his word; it means going back to church; it means going back to prayer.

Like a pit stop on the highway of life, waiting on the Lord is an opportunity to double check with God that the direction you are headed in is the right direction.

And, the beauty of waiting for the Lord in this way is that, by actively waiting on the Lord, we will be renewed regardless of when the Lord answers us. That's what Isaiah teaches us by using the same word for 'wait' that David uses in Psalm 27, to teach us about hope and renewal.

That, 'those who hope in [wait for] the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.' (Isaiah 40:37).

This is the beauty of waiting for the Lord.

God blessing upon you as you actively wait for the Lord, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 12, 2022

Lord Jesus

Today is October 12, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

The name 'Lord' was given to Jesus by God the Father after Jesus' resurrection. The bible tells us that it is the 'name above every name;' a name that all will declare Jesus to be in time.

But what does it mean? Well...

  • To declare Jesus Lord is to declare his position over you and to honor him
  • To declare Jesus Lord is to declare that he is your one and only God
  • To declare Jesus Lord is to declare that you trust in him for all things
  • To declare Jesus Lord is to declare that you will follow in his example of humility
The name that we open our prayers with and sing songs about, not only does it remind us of who Jesus is and who we are in relation to Jesus, but it challenges us to put our full trust in him; to show the same humility that Jesus demonstrated by dying for our sins while, at the same time, honoring the one who saves us.

That's the depth that is in the name 'Lord.'

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the name 'Lord' in reference to Jesus, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
