TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 21, 2022

That He Gave

Today is December 21, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

With Christmas we remember how God gave to us. And God giving to us means he has not given up on us.

In Isaiah, God's people thought that, because of their sins and disobedience, God had forsaken them and forgotten about them. But God did not give up on them. And, through Isaiah, he made it clear that his love for them goes beyond parental love, and that his commitment to them was personal, purposeful, and permanent.

No matter what, God does not give up on his people.

And the bible makes it clear that his grace is greater, that our worthiness is not based on our actions but on Christ's, that we all fall short but in Christ we are victorious, that his patience is not like our patience, in fact, his standards are not like ours at all.

God does not give up on us.

And Christmas is just one more reminder of that faithfulness. Meaning Christmas is a reminder of God's desire to be with us, and every element of it is his invitation for us to come back to him. That's why he gave us his son in the first place.

And so, this season, let us not only remember God's great gift for us, but let us remember the purpose of that gift and what giving to us implies.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on God's love and commitment to you, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 14, 2022

For God So Loved

Today is December 14, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

Part of the Christmas season is remembering the love of God to give us Jesus Christ. But what is this love?

On one hand, it is an impossible love. The bible describes it as a life and death, undeserved, steadfast, unchanging, unconditional, lavish, and perfect love. A love that was given to the whole world.

On the other hand, it is a very practical love. A love beautifully described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a:

1 Cor 13:4-8a (ESV)
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

This is the love that God shows us and what he calls us to do.

Now, loving someone unconditionally and perfectly might seem impossible. However, we all can love someone with more patience and kindness, with less rudeness and resentfulness, and with more consistency.

And, ultimately, that is why Apostle Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 13 in the first place. It was to teach the church how to practically love the way God loves us.

And so, as we remember the love of God this season, let us take a step toward showing God's love more to others, for that is what he calls all of us to do.

God's blessing as you meditate on God's love and his command to show that love, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 7, 2022

A Humble Legacy

Today is December 7, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

In James chapter 4, James talks about the need to show humility when it comes to conflict within the church. And...

Humility, humility is not easy.

Especially when you feel like you are in the right. When you feel more capable, more experienced, more educated; when you feel like you just know and they don’t.

I mean, how can one yield in that situation? How can one show submissiveness in that situation?

Humility. Humility is not easy.

And the larger the perceived gap between the two parties – whether size or strength; knowledge or wisdom; age or experience – the harder it is to show humility.

I mean, how can the strong humble themselves to the weak?  How can the wise humble themselves to the fools?  How can the experienced humble themselves to the naïve?

Humility. Humility is not easy.

But that is exactly what God does for us. God – the all powerful, all knowing – humbled himself by becoming man – Jesus Christ - who humbled himself by becoming a servant, who humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross. All that so that we might live. All that so that we might have eternal life.

Oh how great the love of God is for us as demonstrated by his humility.

And, for those who call themselves his disciples, it is the same kind of humility he calls all of us to show today.

So, yes

Humility, humility is not easy.

But in humility, as James reminds us in James 4:10, God will lift you up.

God's blessing as you meditate on humility this season, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 30, 2022

A New Name

Today is November 30, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

This past Sunday Pastor Esther Yi preached about Jacob wrestling with the Lord. Her main point was this:

"God transforms us by giving us a new identity when we surrender our lives to him."

In her own words:

"Let us remember that in Jesus we have been given new names - a new identity. Instead of doing things our way by struggling - struggling against the world, struggling against God - we can, instead, let Jesus do the fighting for us because he has already won the great fight - the great fight against sin and death. He won it when he died and resurrected for us. So, instead of being the perfectionist, we can rest in Jesus knowing that he was perfect in every way on our behalf. Instead of thinking you are unlovable, you can have confidence knowing that you are worthy and loved because God, the king of the universe, loves you and calls you his child. We can live in complete surrender and dependence on God because he now fights for us. Let us trust in him. Let us rest in him in the new name that he gives us."

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on the new name that God gives us and what that means, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 16, 2022

Dear TFPC EM,

My family tested positive for COVID on Tuesday (11/15) morning. YouLim realized that she was not feeling well on Sunday (11/13) during the 1st worship service, so she withdrew herself immediately. She was at church on Sunday because her COVID test was negative on Saturday morning. My symptoms started on Monday.

We are sharing this timeline with our sincere apologies. YouLim was masked most of the time on Friday (Women's Bible Study) and Sunday at church, but she might have been unmasked to drink water. She is worried that someone might have been exposed.

Please pray for us. We are all recovering slowly and it has been a very painful three days so far. I am sending this for awareness and, again, our apologies, so that you may test yourself and protect you and your loved ones.

Sincerely,

Frank Kim
