TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 1, 2023

The Faith of Moses

Today is March 1, 2023

Welcome to March and your mid-week!

In one way, Passover is such a gruesome thing to celebrate.

I mean, to remember the night where death struck Egypt so severely that there was wailing throughout the country. To remember the night when you slaughtered a lamb and used its blood as paint over your door frame.

Yes, salvation from slavery was gained through that action. However, why did God ask that kind of action in the first place? Why have it celebrated every single year?

Well, the reason was to help us to see and understand our salvation from sin and death through Jesus Christ.

The New Testament writers agree, Passover foreshadows our salvation through Jesus. How, more than just a holiday, it was meant to help us to see and understand how we are spiritually enslaved by sin death, and how the death of someone without sin is the only way we can be delivered from that bondage.

This is the message that all people need to hear.

Suddenly, from that perspective, asking of the slaughtering of a lamb without defect in Moses' time makes sense. Asking God's people to celebrate it for ~1300 years as they are exiled and scattered throughout the world, makes sense.

Through Moses and God's people's faithfulness, are we now able to see better and understand clearer how Jesus Christ saves us. And that is why Moses' faith is commended by God.

God's blessing as you mediate on the faith of Moses and of God's salvation, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 22, 2023

The Faith of Moses' Parents

Today is February 22, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the hiding of Moses from Pharaoh's edict, Moses' parents showed a courageous faith. I mean, the threat of physical punishment was real. Moses' parents could have been imprisoned or tortured or killed.

However, similar to the veins of Apostle Peter who said 'We must obey God rather than human beings!', Moses' parents chose to act in faith despite the fear of man. And that example is incredibly important for us today.

While we may not face physical threats to our faith, we do faith psychological threats. To be judged or stared at. To not receive thumbs up or upvotes or hearts or likes. To receive mockery or disgust or disappointment. The psychological fear of man is real and it can scare us into not acting in faith.

As Christians we called to be a light, to be witnesses, to go and make disciples. Sharing the gospel is more than just a command or a duty that we are to do, gratitude should prompt that action.

However, the fear of man can silence us. This is why Moses' parents were commended for their faith. They showed a courageous faith that acted despite the fear of man and, ultimately, that is the faith we need to have and the faith we need to pass forward.

God's blessing as you mediate on Moses' parents act of faith, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 15, 2023

The Faith of Joseph

Today is February 15, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Amongst all the great acts of faith by Joseph, the only one that is commended and mentioned in Hebrews 11 is him speaking of the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and him giving the instructions concerning the burial of his bones to his people. And the reason this is an act of faith is because, at that time in Joseph's life,

things were good.

Joseph was wealthy and powerful...in Egypt.
Joseph was respected and had influence...in Egypt.
Joseph's family and people had acquired property and were fruitful and were increasing greatly in number...in Egypt.

For anyone else, leaving Egypt would not make sense.

But that is what Joseph believed would happen because Joseph knew that God wanted his people in the promise land. And, instead of fighting against it, Joseph welcomed it.

To still act in faith; trusting in God's promises, despite current success or comfort - that is the faith that Joseph shows and was commended for. And, ultimately, that is the type of faith we need to pass forward.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on the faith of Joseph, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 8, 2023

The Faith of Isaac and Jacob

Today is February 8, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Both Isaac and Jacob are not husband of the year or father of the year worthy. In fact, we don't see any huge miracles or extraordinary accomplishments in their lives. No battles fought or wars won or acts of bravery or, even, great wisdom shared.

I mean, Isaac is best know for not being sacrificed and having his blessing stolen.
Jacob is best known for tricking his dad, not knowing Leah from Rachel, and switching his hands when giving the blessing to his grandsons.

These are not the most pious, obedient, and faithful individuals.

However, they both trusted in the future promises of God. Promises given to Abraham. Promises that they could not deliver to their families.

Isaac and Jacob were totally dependent upon God to fulfill the promised blessings, and, despite family drama and circumstances, they both showed their trust in those promises by passing them on to the next generation.

That is what they are commended for. And that act of faith is why, not only are they  in the 'Halls of Faith' in Hebrews 11, but are associated with the Lord forever.

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on the faith of Isaac and Jacob, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 1, 2023

The Faith of Abraham and Sarah

Today is February 1, 2023

Welcome to February and welcome to your mid-week!

Both Abraham and Sarah are commended for their trust in the promises of God. And that trust is amazing. I mean, to trust God to have a baby at the age of 100? To trust the Lord to resurrect that son if he were sacrificed? Simply amazing.

However, it took them ~50 years to get to that point. 50 years of ups and downs. 50 years of belief and doubt. 50 years of obedience and rebellion.

In fact, for Sarah, she didn't trust in the promises of God until Isaac was physically born.

To wrestle with the promises of God and to take matters into their own hands; to question and go against and challenge and ignore the promises of God. Yes, we see trust in God's promises. But that trust came after a 50 year faith journey.

And God still commended them for that trust.

We don't see God take a deep sigh or shake his head or face palm at their journey. No. What we see is God's patience and, when Abraham and Sarah trusted in the promises of God, we see God commend them for it. That is what we see.

And, ultimately, trusting in the promises of God is the faith we need to pass forward.

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on the faith of Abraham and Sarah, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
