TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 25, 2020

The Church is a Royal Priesthood

Today is November 25, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

One of the responsibilities we have as a church is to be the new priesthood.

The old priesthood were mediators between God and man. They interceded on behalf of God's people and reconciled them back to God via animal sacrifices ever year.

With Jesus being our perfect high priest and our perfect sacrifice, we no longer have to do what they did. However, we still have the responsibility to share the message of Jesus - the message of reconciliation - and to intercede on behalf of all people via prayer.

This is what God asks us to do because, as 1 Timothy 2:3-4 tells us, God "wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Meaning, for us to be successful in our responsibility, we need people. We need people to share the gospel message with. We need people to intercede via prayer for. This is why Apostle Paul urges Timothy that "thanksgiving be made for all people" in 1 Timothy 2:1.

The people in our lives help us to be the church we are called to be.

And, in this thanksgiving season, it is a good reminder for us to give thanks for the people God brings into our lives, allowing us to be, not just a royal priesthood, but a true church.

God's blessing and protection over all of you this Thanksgiving week, and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 18, 2020

The Church is a Sports Team

Today is November 18, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

I have always found it hard to self motivate myself to train. Exercising, lifting weights, dieting? Yea, too hard to do that by myself.

Well, this is why God wants us to work as a team.

Spiritual training is hard. Studying the bible, doing spiritual disciplines, getting rid of those things that hinder us, and willing our bodies into submission? That's hard. Hence why the biblical emphasis on teamwork.

Apostle Paul had the churches. Jesus had his 12. God is the trinity.

We all need teamwork in order to be the spiritual athletes God wants us to be. And this spiritual training is not without value. In fact, 1 Timothy 4:8 tells us that "godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

And so, let us spiritually train together. Let us do one more spiritual rep, one more spiritual set. Let us spiritually extend fully while not forgetting to spiritually breathe because that is what it means for the church to be a sports team.

God's blessing upon you as you wrestle with this metaphor and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 11, 2020

The Church is the Army of God

Today is November 11, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the wake of people, politics, and this pandemic, 2020 has felt like a never ending spiritual battle - a battle against our anxieties, our fears, and our hopelessness. And, although we may know what the righteous thing to do is, evil is right there with us waging war against our minds and tempting us to make the sinful choice.

That is the spiritual war that everyone faces daily, and it is tiring.

Praise God that, in his mighty power, he gives us his full armor to help with this war. Praise God for truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the word of the Lord.

And, not only does he give us this armor, the beauty of the work of the Lord is that he does not ask us to win the war. No. We already have victory in Christ Jesus, a victory we can experience now by faith. Meaning, all we need to do then is

to stand.

That is what we are asked to do. In the face of the devil's schemes, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm, we are given the full of armor of God and asked

to stand.

So then, let us stand. Let us pick each other up, continue to fight the good fight, and stand in the full armor of the Lord because that is what it means to be the army of the God.

God's blessing and protection over you and your family as you wrestle with this metaphor and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 4, 2020

The Church is the Kingdom of God

Today is November 4, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the bible, Christians are called a 'holy nation,' 'God's people,' and 'fellow citizens.' We are not separated by geography, states, or political colors but by those who are lost and those who are found.

And all of us were once lost. All of had our own journey to find the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ.

Meaning, if we can see all people from that perspective, then we can have empathy for all people because, all of us, at one time, were spiritual immigrants.

With so much dividing us in this world, meditating on the metaphor of the church being the Kingdom of God is a reminder to look at the larger, spiritual perspective. The thing that truly divides us is sin. The one that truly unites us - that is the bridge, the way, & the gate - is Christ.

God's blessing and protection over you and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 28, 2020

The Church is the Lord's Temple

Today is October 28, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

Apostle Paul's metaphor for us to be the Lord's temple is not just a call to holiness, but a call to make Jesus our everything.

In scripture we see that Jesus is supposed to be our foundation. Jesus is supposed to be the one we stand on through the storms.
In scripture we see that Jesus is supposed to be our cornerstone. Jesus is supposed to be the one we trust and follow.
In scripture we see that Jesus is supposed to be our capstone. Jesus is supposed to be the one we boast about and proclaim.

Now, yes, we do have our responsibilities as the building stones of this temple metaphor but, without Jesus being our foundation, we will crumble. Without Jesus being our cornerstone, our lives will not be straight. Without Jesus being our capstone, we will be building a temple to someone or something else.

Jesus needs to be the center of our lives in every way before we start talking about what our responsibility is as the building stones of the Lord's temple. So, who is Jesus to you? Is Jesus your foundation? Is Jesus your cornerstone? Is Jesus your capstone?

For us to be the Lord's temple we need to start with you and Jesus.

God's protection and blessing over you and your family as you wrestle with this temple building metaphor and I look forward to worshiping with you all online this Sunday.
