TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 27, 2022

Born Again

Today is July 27, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

To be born again means that we are a new creation. It means we will not perish but have eternal life. It means that we are now children of God.

And, being a new creation, we now have a new heart and a new spirit within us. Meaning, we now have a new desire to please our Father in heaven.

And how do we please our father in heaven?

Well, we please him by striving toward being holy and obeying his commands, most importantly the command to love.

This new identity and new desire is the motivation for all that we do.

It is the reason why we try to be faithful and committed and loving and kind and gracious and merciful and humble and helpful.
It is the reason why we try to turn the other cheek, to be more empathetic, to show more compassion, to be more forgiving, to be slow to anger, and to try to be holy.
It is the reason why we do not attack back, why we try not to be petty or jealous or lustful or hateful or selfish or mean spirited.
It is the reason that, despite miscommunication or expectations not being met; despite being hurt or ignored or judged, we do not separate or run from our problems or seek greener pastures but, instead, endure and persevere and learn and change and adapt and grow and try and try again.

Everything we would do with our physical family, we now strive to do with our spiritual family because we know that that pleases the Lord. That is what people born again do.

And that phrase 'born again' is also reminder of the hope we have after the birthing pains of this world end. The hope of heaven. Where this world will be redeemed and where we will have no more tears or sorrow or pain or death.

And so, from that truth, let us continue to endure and press on, to not give up but to try and try again. For that is what it means to be people born again.

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on what it means to be born again, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

Our Calling to Be United

Today is July 20, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

This past Sunday Pastor Esther from South Bay Mission Church preached on Ephesians 4 and she preached on the importance of guarding our unity. How, not only is it something that God emulates in himself, but how it something we are called to do as we strive to imitate Jesus Christ in our lives.

In essence, to be called to Jesus is to be called to be united.

As she said:

"We can guard the unity of the church when we follow our calling, imitating the way Jesus drew near to us."

God's blessing as you mediate on your calling and how you can guard the unity of the church, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 13, 2022

Together, Interdependently

Today is July 13, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

Proverbs 27:17 - 'As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another' - is describing an interdependent relationship where, despite differences and roughness, two people are making each other better.

If we have a dependent relationship with the church, then if the church falls - if a pastor or leader or mentor falls - we fall.

If we have an independent relationship with the church, then someone's joy or suffering has no impact on our lives at all.

However, if we have an interdependent relationship with the church, then our joy is increased and our sorrow is decreased. Like individual strings of a guitar that choose to play together, we would make and experience something more beautiful than what we could ever have experienced individually.

That's the kind of relationship Proverbs 27:17 is showing us. However, that can only come if our dependent relationship is with Jesus.

When we have a right relationship with Jesus and we choose to have an interdependent relationship with the church – when we choose to be pieces of iron that sharpen each other, no matter how different or how ‘rough’ we might be - then, all parties are blessed.

And that's the point.

God's blessing as you mediate on your relationship with Jesus, this world, and the church, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 06, 2022

Worship, an Offering

Today is July 6, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the bible, we are commanded to worship the Lord. As Psalm 96:9 says:

"Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth."

But what does that look like? Well, the first recorded example of worship was via an offering. Meaning, what the bible tells us about how to give an offering can shed light on how we are to worship.

And what does the bible say about the right way to give an offering?

Well, the bible tells us to bring our best. The bible tells us that it should be directed to God alone, set apart, and that it should be given without delay. We should not give our worst or give it slowly. We should not withhold it or not give it at all. We should not offer it to idols or offer it in sin.

Our best, set apart, and directed to God without delay is the right way to give an offering.

Meaning, that is also the right way to worship. That is how we can offer our praise in worship, our relationships in worship, and our interactions with our church members in worship.

It starts with understanding that worship is an offering.

And, in doing so, we can take one step closer to our 2022 vision to 'Rise Together Again In Worship.'

God's blessing as you meditate on worship as an offering and the many ways we can apply that in the ways we worship God, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JUNE 29, 2022

Fight, Finish, Keep

Today is June 29, 2022

Welcome to your mid-week!

This past Sunday Pastor Diana gave her last message as our Assistant Pastor, and she finished off our series of 2 Timothy looking at Apostle Paul's final charge to Timothy.

As she spoke of marathon runners and Apostle Paul; of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and her 10 years of ministry at TFPC, the overall emphasis was to trust the plan that God has for us. That, whatever the fight God calls us to fight; whatever the race God calls us the run; whatever ways God calls us to keep our faith, to trust in the plan of God and to be faithful no matter how difficult or how long it may be.

As Pastor Diana said:

"
We are not all called to martyrdom...but we are called to persevere. No matter how difficult. No matter how challenging. We are still called to persist."

And, in doing so, we show how amazing our God is. By choosing to be faithful we allow God to work through us to become someone's miracle; to alter the course of someone's eternity.

And all the excuses we might give to not be faithful, would only point to the power of God's work more if we would just said, "yes."

As Pastor Diana said:

"Look at the work that God has done through me. Look at how God used someone so ignorant, someone so immature, someone so foolish to do his work."

All of us have benefited from people who trusted in God's plan and were faithful. And all of us are also called to do the same.

And so, as Pastor Diana said:

"May you fight the good fight, may you finish the race, and may you keep the faith. May you be persistent and faithful in all that God has called you to do. And when you receive that finishing medal...may you look back with confidence at the great work that God has done in and through you."

God's blessing as you mediate on God's plan and the battles, courses, and commands he calls you to be faithful to, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
