Directing Thanksgiving

Today November 27, 2024

Welcome to your mid-week!

The picture of eternal life that the bible gives us is one that is similar to our own but different.

Jesus’ life after his resurrection shows us that there is some continuity between this life and the next. Jesus’ example suggests our skills and memories and relationships and passions will carry over.

However, major things will be redeemed and perfected from what we know.

Our bodies will be redeemed and perfected. The earth will be redeemed and perfected. The heavens will be redeemed and perfected. From this, it can be argued that our relationships with people in heaven will be redeemed and perfected.

But it is what we will be doing for eternity that the bible gives us this interesting picture.

Revelation 22:3 says we will be serving the Lord in eternity. And how did we serve the Lord before the fall? Well, we served the Lord by being made stewards of his creation – naming and taking care of the animals. This required us to work and explore and be creative.

This means eternity will be a place of

meaningful work,

meaningful exploration, and

meaningful creativity,

where we will have endless opportunities to learn and discover and grow.

This picture of eternity is what God gives us through faith in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the gate, and the shepherd that leads us to these green pastures.

And this amazing gift should stir within us and produce an overwhelming, heartfelt thank you to the Lord. In fact, all the gifts that God gives us - physically, personally, relationally, & spiritually - should lead to that one act.

So, this Thanksgiving, let us remember all the good and perfect things that God gives us, and let us

give thanks to the Lord.

  Training for elected officers (serving elders and deacons) will be held over three weeks according to the schedule below. All electees are required to attend. (There will be a test on the final day of training.) Dates: 12/1 (Sunday, 1:30 p.m.), 12/6 and12/13 (Fridays, 7 p.m.)

  The Ministry of Education is recruiting teachers and volunteers who are dedicated to faith education for the next generation. For more details, please contact the department pastors or the church office. (Pre-K, Elementary, Youth)
