Welcome to your mid-week!

When we think of traditional mentorship we think of a relay race where a baton is passed to someone else. But Christian mentorship is not like that.

Since Jesus is the example both mentor and mentee are called to follow, Christian mentorship is not about passing knowledge or experience from one person or another, it is about mutual growth as both strive to model Christ’s example.

Since following Jesus’ example requires a heart of humility and service, Christian mentorship is not the mentor asserting control or being a source of authority, it is about both denying themselves, setting aside their ambitions, and embracing that life of humility and service.

Biblical mentorship is therefore a partnership. It is not a perfect person leading an imperfect one—it’s about imperfect people following the perfect example of Christ, side by side.

Thus, biblical mentorship is more like running a marathon together, with both mentor and mentee encouraging each other, setting the pace, and pushing one another toward the ultimate goal—Jesus Christ.

The challenge for us is to intentionally step into this partnership of growth. To do more than just encourage one another, but to initiate, engage, and walk together toward Him.

God’s blessing as you meditate on biblical mentorship and those encouragers who could partner with, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
