Today is June 7, 2023
Welcome to your mid-week!
One of the reasons we do VBS at our church is because VBS is an effective evangelistic tool that helps to fulfill the Great Commission. In fact, it is one of the few events at our church that brings all departments together and purposefully advertises out to the community.
However, more than just reaching out to children with the gospel message, VBS also is an opportunity to remember what it takes to enter the kingdom of God.
As Jesus reminded his disciples, "Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." (Mark 10:15)
When a young child receives a gift, there is a level of joy that is expressed, a level of appreciation shown, and, particularly with amazing gifts, a level of awe there that adults just do not project as much.
Perhaps it is the fact that we've been too independent and have worked hard too much in our lives, but that 'helpless, totally dependent on the giver' attitude is just something we don't have.
But kids? They have that in spades. And that is the attitude Jesus is telling us we need to have when it comes to receiving and entering into the amazing gift of the Kingdom of God.
God's blessing as you mediate on the children in your life, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
