TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 15, 2023

The Faith of Rahab

Today is March 15, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Rahab's act of faith was more than a calculated choice to save her and her family. It was an act that went against everything she was raised not to do.

Culturally, as a Canaanite and citizen of Jericho, Rahab wasn't supposed to have anything to do with God's people.
As a woman in the highly patriarchal society of that time, Rahab wasn't supposed to speak or ask, let alone give advice to any man, let alone God's people.
As a prostitute, knowing how God's people would view her, Rahab wasn't supposed to have anything to do with God's people.

And yet, despite cultural and societal and moral pressures, Rahab acted in faith. Instead of listening to the expectations of her culture or society, or allowing her own sin and shame to stop her from acting, Rahab, instead, sought after the God of Joshua who, as she says in Joshua 2:11 "...is God in heaven above and on the earth below."

That act of faith is what she was commended for. Above Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah and David and Samuel and all the prophets - it is Rahab's faith that is mentioned in Hebrews 11. And that is the faith we need to pass forward.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on Rahab's faith and the challenges to your own faith, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
