The Struggle to Change

Today is May 5, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

For Jonah to change it took 3 days in the belly of a fish. 3 days without friends or family.  3 days without traffic or movies or restaurants. 3 days without a barber or a job or sunlight.

3 days of struggle.

But, ultimately, his heart changed to align itself more with God's heart. Now, it was not a complete change of heart. He did not suddenly have a 180 degree change in his life. No. He struggled and struggled and struggled and, eventually, he changed

a little bit. 

But the lesson of Jonah is that we need to have that struggle. We need to be in the process of change.

We were made in the image of God. We are suppose to be his people. That means we should be pursuing righteousness and mercy and humility. We should be pursuing compassion and forgiveness and sacrifice. We should be pursuing faithfulness and stewardship and community and goodness and love.

However, for most of our lives, there are just too many distractions; too many things that pull us from aligning ourselves to the will of the Lord. And, many times, we do not look like his people.

What Jonah teaches us is that the solution must come from the inside out - that change must start with our heart. And, as painful as it might be, we need to have that

struggle to change.

God's protection over you and your family and I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

• Sunday Worship will only be offered online, following California's stay-at-home order. As of now, in-person services will begin when we begin phase 3 of California's 4 phase opening strategy.
