Welcome to your mid-week!
Jesus' parents each had some amazing qualities.
For Mary, based on her response to the angel Gabriel and compared to how her cousin's husband responded to a similar message from the angel, we can see that Mary had amazing faith. And that faith in God and faith in her son we see from the beginning of Jesus' ministry all the way to the cross where she is the only immediate family to be by his side.
For Joseph, based on the fact that there is not a single quote from him recorded in scripture, we can see that Joseph was an amazing man of action. And we see that action in his kindness and mercy shown to Mary and in his immediate obedience to the commands of God.
Both Mary and Joseph had some amazing qualities, and both loved Jesus in their own way. And, as image bearers of God who reflect the characteristics of God, both Mary and Joseph give different aspects of how our heavenly father loves us.
For, just like Mary, God has tremendous faith in us shown by giving us the free will to choose. And, just like Joseph, God acts on our behalf, extending his kindness and mercy in the hope that we would said yes to his amazing gift.
The bible makes it clear: our father in heaven loves us. And, like every good and perfect thing, the best qualities shown by Jesus' parents point to our father in heaven. By seeing that and understanding the reason for that amazing love shown by God, can we begin to love God's children the way Mary and Joseph loved Jesus.
God's blessing as you meditate on Jesus' parents and God's parental love for you, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
