Hagar's first experience with the God of Abraham was via an angel of the Lord at a well in the desert. She had fled from Abram and Sarai and faced an unknown future when the angel of the Lord encouraged her to go back with a promise of blessing. From that encounter, Hagar named the Lord as the 'God who sees me' (Genesis 16:13) and she also named the well where she met the angel of the Lord as 'Beer Lahai Roi' meaning, the one who is alive and sees me.
~400 years later, leading his people through the wilderness, Moses would use that same well as a reminder to his people that God is alive and that he see them.
For us, as we go through our pandemic wilderness, we may sometimes questions whether God is alive through all this, whether he sees us in our challenges. Well, all through scripture we see God showing himself alive. Just a couple of weeks ago we remembered how God saw us in our sin and rescued us through Jesus Christ.
God is alive and he sees us. Our Elohim is El Roi. Just as he was there for Hagar, just as he was there for his people during the time of Moses, just as he was there for us when he sent his son to die on the cross, so he will be there for us now.
God's blessing and protection over you and your family and I look forward to worshiping with you all online this Sunday.

- Sunday Worship will only be offered online, following California's stay-at-home order. Currently that order has been extended to May 15
