TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 25, 2019

Our Tests

Today is September 25, 2019

Welcome to your mid-week!

Apostle Paul tried to help the church of Corinth - who was in sin - via instructions through his first letter, 1st Corinthians. But the church rejected it. So Apostle Paul had to visit them in person in what he called a 'painful visit.' He had to be harsh and use his authority to tear them down in order to guide them back to walking in the light. And, upon leaving them again, he writes them his 2nd letter, 2nd Corinthians. In the last chapter of 2nd Corinthians Apostle Paul pleads with them to not make the same mistake again - to not reject this letter as they did the first time. And what was his plea?

To test themselves and see if they are in Christ.

Christianity is not supposed to be done via trial and error. We are given a text book for a reason. Just as police officers and doctors and pilots need to test before they practice, so should we test ourselves with the word of the Lord before we act.

Also, groups influence decisions. If the group believes and acts one way, it is easy to be swayed to believe and act as the group believes and acts - even if it may be false. True Christianity is based on an individual and sincere decision to follow Jesus. Every single one of us who claim to be a Christian needs to evaluate whether we really are obedient to the one we call Lord and, when faced with trials, whether we really believe in the hope that Christ claims.

For, if we do not really believe and if we do not test ourselves before we act, we might end up just like the Church of Corinth, rejecting the message of God and continuing in sin.

God's blessing upon you and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.
