Marital Conflict

Today is May 15, 2019

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the Song of Songs, when the married couple fights, we see the offended not respond in kind to the offender, we see God do the disciplining, and we see a desire for resolution.

Just like Christ who, as it says in 1 Peter 2:23 -

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

- so we saw that same poise and discipline in the marital conflict shown in Song of Songs.

And, at the end, we saw a desire for resolution through how they talked to each other. And, in that conversation, we saw tenderness, forgiveness, and the love described in 1 Corinthians 13:5.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

And what were the results of this fight? A deepening relationship to the point where they were described as being one.

And that is the wisdom found in Song of Songs.

Conflict does not have to be something that divides or destroys. Conflict is a natural part of every relationship that is an opportunity for growth. It is an opportunity. And the fruit of fighting biblically is a stronger, more intimate relationship.
