TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY 6, 2019

Our Fans
Today is February 6, 2019
Welcome to February and your mid-week!
To encourage the persecuted Jewish Christians of the early church, the author of Hebrews compared their walk of faith to that of racers in a stadium. Racers would throw off everything that hindered them and would run as quickly as possible. They wouldn't go backwards but would constantly move forward in order to win the prize. And, cheering them on, were the fans, the people in the stadium.
For the author of Hebrews, walking daily in the faith is the race and the fans cheering us on are the people of faith; for him the list of people he mentions in Hebrews 11. And who are these people?
Well, there are 16 names mentioned and 9 that are implied. 25 names of men and women in the bible who, by faith, did amazing things. They moved mountains, conquered giants, defeated armies, and established kingdoms. And, all of them faced enormous challenges doing so.
Some faced war, other's faced family issues. Some faced poverty, other's faced identity issues. There were some that faced discrimination, others who failed as mentors, others who had to rebuild after tragedy.
All these men and women faced enormous challenges and yet, despite these challenges, God was faithful with every single one of them. They ran their race to completion, never giving up but always moving forward, and just as they did so you can too.
This is the encouragement that the Hebrews author was giving to the Jewish Christians of the early church, and this is our encouragement in whatever challenges we face.
Whatever the challenge or the obstacle, know that you are not alone. There is a cloud of witnesses cheering you on so get up, fix your eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, and continue your race.
God's blessing upon you and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.
