TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - May 2, 2018

Shalom Makers
Today is May 2, 2018
Welcome to May and your mid-week!
Jesus is known as the 'Prince of Peace' and, when we say 'peace', we don't mean an absence of war. We mean wholeness, harmony, and mutual prosperity between all parties.
The Jewish word for this is 'shalom.'
When we were separated from God via sin, Jesus gives us 'shalom' by dying for our sins on the cross thus reuniting us with our maker.
Jesus is our example of 'shalom' and, as Christians, the challenge is to show that kind of 'shalom' with each other.
How do we do that?
Well, Apostle Paul writes about it in Ephesians 4. In the face of two vastly different groups of people coming together to form a church, Apostle Paul urges everyone to "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."
For Paul, all of us have the same unity through the Spirit of God. We all share the same testimony of being saved through Jesus Christ. Thus, we should focus on what unites us. We shouldn't avoid or ignore each other but to make every effort to be united through the bond of 'shalom.'
In essence Paul is saying to do what we believe in. That, if we believe that Jesus died for all and that, once saved, all are now children of God; then, we need to act like a family. We need to be humble and gentle and patient, bearing with one another in love and, most importantly, keeping the unity through shalom.
And that is our challenge as a church. To be, what Jesus labeled as blessed; as children of God - the peace makers.
God blessing upon you this week and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.
