TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 15, 2020

Rejoicing Like Mary

Today is April 15, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

Mary Magdalene - the follower of Jesus who was there at his trial via Pontius Pilate; the follower of Jesus who was there when he died on the cross; the follower of Jesus who saw where he was buried - that Mary went to Jesus' tomb early Sunday morning and was the first to see him risen. And what did she experience?

Joy.

Mary saw the risen Lord and she felt

Joy.

On Good Friday I showed a video of a spoken word found HERE that, in the middle, talks about the various things we can say goodbye to thanks to the risen Lord. That, because Jesus is alive, we can say goodbye to fear, sorrow, rejection, shame, guilt, condemnation, regret, addiction, chains, hopelessness, captivity, loneliness, defeat, the curse, the enemy, darkness, dread, sin, and death.

The reason we can say goodbye to all that is because the resurrection of Jesus opens the way to eternity; to heaven. The place that God describes as a place of no sin and no tears and no pain or sorrow - that place becomes a reality because God fulfilled his promise in Christ Jesus.

This is why our joy is found complete in Jesus (John 15:11) because, as God showed himself faithful by raising Jesus from the dead, so he will be faithful with his promises to us.

This is why Easter is so important to remember and celebrate.  Easter is all about remembering the hope that we have in Jesus Christ, resting in the peace of God knowing that he who calls you is faithful, and experiencing his

Joy.

God's blessing upon you and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 8, 2020

Palm Sunday Resolutions

Today is April 8, 2020

Welcome to April and your mid-week!

With the start of Passion week, it is good to reflect and challenge ourselves with the people of God who celebrated Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

On one hand, despite being under Roman rule, they showed an amazing amount of courage. They were unafraid as they declared Jesus King.

On the other hand, having lived under that rule for so long, they showed an amazing amount of selfishness. They were only thinking of themselves as they declared Jesus King of Israel.

With everything that we are facing currently, it is good to remind ourselves of God's rescue of us as well as his holistic plan for the world. There's a reason the bible mentions over 300 times to not be afraid. There's a reason why Jesus came and died for us.

As we enter into this holy week, I pray that we would all take some time to draw near to our Lord; to reflect and mediate not just on his actions but on what it means for us; and, in doing so, receive peace.

God's blessing upon you all and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Good Friday and Easter.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - APRIL 1, 2020

Walk the Aisle

Today is April 1, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

When it comes to doing the same wisdom over and over again, especially when it comes to preventative wisdom, there is a danger to forget the importance of doing it. We might take it for granted. We may not see the benefits of it. We may view it as too much of an inconvenience.

Take, for example, something as simple as social distancing and washing our hands. This pandemic has suddenly brought into focus the wisdom in doing those things. The challenge is, as these weeks stretch on to months, can we still commit to it every day?

That's why Solomon ends the book of Proverbs the way he does.

The book of Proverbs ends with an 'Epilogue of the Wife of Noble Character' and, more then just saying we need to marry wisely, I believe Solomon is telling his son to commit to wisdom; to commit to wisdom as much as you would a marriage.

Back in chapters 8 and 9 Solomon personifies wisdom as a woman, challenging us to love her. I believe, by ending the book with this epilogue, Solomon is challenging us to take love to its final conclusion. When it comes to wisdom, we need to commit to it that seriously.

Home schooling. Cabin fever. Quarantine 15. There are a lot of inconveniences that we are experiencing. But, ultimately, we know the importance of doing what we are doing because, in the end of the day, it saves lives. That is how important that wisdom is.

How much more so then, when we think about our eternity, is committing to the wisdom of the Lord?

God's blessing and protection on you this week and I look forward to worshiping with you online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 25, 2020

Of Fields and Sluggards

Today is March 25, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

Inserted near the end of Solomon's wisdom in the book of Proverbs are the 'Sayings of the Wise.' The last 'Sayings of the Wise' talks about a sluggard who has a field and yet does nothing with it, leading to his poverty. It is a lesson on the dangers of laziness.

In the challenging situation that we are all faced with, I think there is a huge temptation to be lazy. No gym, no office, no school, no church. Laziness is a huge temptation.

But the bible mentions over and over again how we were made to do good work (Ephesians 2:10). In fact, that's what Apostle Paul challenges the church of Galatia in the mist of persecution:

Galatians 6:9-10
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

And the reason that it is mentioned so prominently is that is because, good work is what we were made to do. Adam and Eve worked. Jesus worked. The church worked. God worked.

Yes, things might be different, but God gives us ingenuity and creativity and a massive field of resources to not just invest in ourselves but to invest in those around us. So, let us not be like the sluggard in the 'Sayings of the Wise.' Let us do the good work we know we ought to do.

God's blessing and protection upon you and I look forward to worshiping with you all online this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - MARCH 18, 2020

The Fools vs The Wise

Today is March 18, 2020

Welcome to your mid-week!

In the wake of the coronavirus, we've seen a lot of different foolish people. We've seen fools who do not believe the experts. We've seen fools who think they know better than the experts. We've seen fools who know what to do and yet don't do it.

Fools.

And, biblically, that's what a spiritual fool is. A spiritual fool does not believe God is righteous; that God is the objective moral line in which all things are measured by and in which we all fall short of. A spiritual fools believes he is righteous and good and definitely not wicked. A spiritual fool knows what to do and yet still doesn't do it. All who do this are spiritual

Fools.

When we recognize that we are sinners, we become humble. When we acknowledge God as righteous and Holy, we become teachable. When we realize that what God tells us is the best for us, we draw closer to God and show others the God who loves them. When we do all three we become

Wise.

And that is our challenge. God's blessing and protection over you and your families as you draw nearer to God and I look forward to digitally connecting with you on Sunday.
