TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 19, 2023

Love Needed

Today is July 19, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Before gentiles started being saved, the early church had amazing fellowship partly because they had the same culture and history.

Today, we don't have that luxury.

This is why true biblical fellowship is so hard. It is easier to have fellowship with people who share your culture or your history then it is with complete strangers.

But, the church of Christ is not supposed to be centered on our background or what makes us who we are. The church of Christ is supposed to be centered around Jesus Christ; around his love. Only in Christ can we have true fellowship. For...

It is his love that unites us (Galatians 3:28)
It is his love that calls us to accept one another (Romans 15:7) and submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21).
It is his love that should be the center of our minds as we strive to have relationship with one another (Philippians 2:5).
It his a love that does not make war with one another but challenges us toward being at peace with one another (Colossians 3:15).

Only in Christ can we have true fellowship.

And, when we abide in him and see more and more the depths of his love for us, the more will we be able to have fellowship with any Christian, no matter their culture or history. And that is what we are called to do as Christians.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on fellowship and the love of Jesus, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

Pleasing to God

Today is July 12, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

When we will see someone face to face and want to be pleasing to that person, what do we do? How do we act?

Well, for Apostle Paul, since he firmly believed that we would one day see the Lord face to face, he challenged the church of Thessalonica to be pleasing to the Lord now.

And how do we please the Lord now? Well by...

being sanctified,
avoiding sexual immorality,
controlling our bodies,
not wronging others,
not taking advantage of others,
being holy, & by
loving one another

This is what Apostle Paul urged the church to do more and more. But, Apostle Paul doesn't end his list here. Apostle Paul also includes how we as a local church should please the Lord. How, as a church, we should

be at peace with the community,
do the work of the church, &
not be a burden but a blessing.

These are the things that we can do to please the Lord.

And the fact that some of the items on his list are an us and God thing, and some of the items on his list are an us and people thing, and some of the items on his list are an us and church thing; means, to please the Lord, we need to be doing all three.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on what it means to please the Lord, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JULY 5, 2024

Freedom's Call

Today is July 5, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Independence day is a great time to remember the freedoms that we have in Jesus Christ. That...

Because of Jesus we are free from the power of sin.
Because of Jesus we are free from the punishment of sin.
Because of Jesus we are free from the burden of the law.

These freedoms should give us joy as we face the challenges of this world. Because, in Christ...

We can live victoriously over sin.
We have hope in eternal life and the resurrection.
We do not need to do anything to be justified before God.

These freedoms should give us joy despite our circumstances.

However, in Galatians 5:13, Apostle Paul challenges us to be responsible with said freedoms; that there are things we should not do and things that we should do with the freedom that we have in Christ.

And, in general, it is about moving away from sin and, instead, moving toward Jesus more and more and more. That is our responsibility. And this responsibility is not without purpose.

The more you have a relationship with someone, the more their characteristics and mannerisms you take on; the more what they care about you care about; the more your heart becomes their's. This is why having a consistent, active relationship with Christ is the responsibility all Christians are called to do.

That is freedom's call.

And the more we abide in Christ, the more we experience the fruit of the Spirit; the more we experience the joy and peace that are given to us by Jesus Christ.

God's blessing upon you as you mediate on your freedoms in Christ, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - JUNE 28, 2023

Holding On to God's Faithfulness

 Today is June 28, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

When the unfaithfulness of this sinful life gets to us - whether from the world, people, or our own bodies - it is tempting to blame God for it. And, in David's writings and Jeremiah's writings, we do see them express their anger to God.

However, the bible makes it clear that God is faithful to us. That God does not hate us or want us to suffer. No.

When we read the bible we see that, from the very beginning, God's desire was to be with us. And, it is from that desire that, even though we disobeyed and deserve death, God does everything he can do to save us.

That is his heart, as evident by the cross that hangs at every church. God loves us so much that he does what was necessary in order to save us and bring him back to himself.

And, even when we do not see things from that eternal perspective; even if we curse and yell and blame God for the results of sin on this world, God is still faithful.

God is still faithful to hear us. God is still faithful to love us.

And that thought is the thought we should hold captive as we face the unfaithfulness of this life. A thought that should not only encourage us, but motivate us to know more about he who is so faithful to us.

God's blessing upon you as you meditate on God's faithfulness, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

Jesus' Faithfulness

Today is June 21, 2023

Welcome to your mid-week!

Faith is not an emotion. Faith is a two party arrangement where we are bond to Christ and he to us. That is what Jesus teaches us with his relationship with Apostle Peter. When our faith is high, we can walk on water. When our faith is little, Jesus holds us up.

Our faith may go up and down but Jesus remains the same. As he told his disciples before his ascension - "I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

Apostle Paul will articulate this concept to Timothy by telling him - "When we are faithless, he remains faithful." (2 Timothy 2:13)

And the beauty of Jesus' faithfulness to us is that, not only is he always there, but, if we run back to him and seek him with all our hearts, he will welcome us and lead us back to the path of restoration.

That is what Jesus showed us when he welcomed Apostle Peter to the same kind of fire that Peter had denied him. Through Jesus' actions he took a symbol of Peter's failure and turned it into a symbol of a 2nd chance.

And that is what he does with us because he is faithful.
God's blessing as you mediate on God's faithfulness to you, and I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
