TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 11, 2021

Heading Toward Our Cross
Today is August 11, 2021
Welcome to your mid-week!
One of the difficult concepts Apostle Paul tried to teach the church of Corinth was how human weakness and God's power were both sides of the same coin.
For the church of Corinth, power was separate from weakness. If anything, weakness - whether that comes via hardship or persecution - was to be avoided at all costs. Obtaining power, for them, was the absence of weakness.
However, God told Apostle Paul that His power was perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 10:9). Meaning they were connected. And the precedent of that is in Jesus Christ. In Jesus' weakest moment - dying on a cross - God's power become evident to the world. And that display of power is what changed the course of eternity for people.
So, if experiencing personal weakness showed the power of God to people so that they could be saved, Apostle Paul's choice was to experience weakness every time. This is why he writes in 2 Corinthians 12:10:
2 Corinthians 12:10
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
For the sake of Christ, for the progression of the gospel not to be hindered, for the power of God to be fully displayed to people, Apostle Paul chose to heads towards his cross, knowing that his pain would not be wasted (Romans 8:28).
God's blessing upon you as you wrestle with the connection between your weaknesses and God's power, and I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

- Cell Group Leaders Needed!
- We are looking to create a ‘Singles & Professional’ (S&P for short) cell group to launch in September and we need leaders!
- Needs the group have made:
- Someone who understands this particular stage of life, though does not feel the need to teach what is the "right" way to live this stage of life
- Someone who is hospitable and able to create a space (both digital and personal) for members to gather and do life together, though not necessarily in their own home
- Because it has been over a year since members have had a community, it is important for the leader to allow time for fellowship so that the members can get reacquainted
- The leader should have a good rapport with most of the members
- Ideally, the group would be led by 2 people (1 woman and 1 man), either a husband and wife or 2 single members; this will ensure that if there are deeper conversations that take place, members can have someone they may feel more comfortable with
- Expectations of the leaders:
- A space where our members can be unapologetic and share about their experiences; re-establishing a cell and community for young singles
- A community where members can be encouraged by peers
- Meet every other week, ideally meet over a meal
- TFPC will cover the cost of meals, curriculum, supplies, and trips for the S&P Cell Group
- Please contact Pastor Frank at frankkim1@gmail.com if interested!
- Mask Requirement for Worship
- For the sake of all members, the session of our church has asked that all attendees wear masks during the worship service until further notice.
- Offering can still be done via online HERE or via mail: P.O. Box 622, Torrance, CA 90508
- For online offering, please select English Ministry (EM), write your EM Member number in the Member ID section, & place details in the memo section. Example: whether the offering is for tithe, thanksgiving, Sunday offering, designated offering, mission offering, etc.
- If you need your members ID# please contact Pastor Frank at frankkim1@gmail.com
- Our EM Elder designated to us from the KM for 2021 will be our Head Pastor, Daniel Ko.
- NEW starting this year, we will have an EM Representative to the Session. For 2021 our EM Representative will be Mike Lyu.
- Please continue to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus, especially those on the frontline of the disease who are putting themselves at risk in the service of us all.
