Jesus Misunderstood
Today is February 17, 2021
Welcome to your mid-week!
If you were to grade the 12 disciples on how much they understood the mission of Jesus before his resurrection, you would give them an 'F.'
3 years of teachings and miracles and analogies and illustrations and object lessons and interactive elements and even directly telling them:
Mark 10:33-34
“We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”
And, despite all that, the disciples still did not understand the mission of Jesus as shown by them abandoning Jesus and denying him when he got arrested.
That's an 'F' in my book.
And yet, despite their misunderstanding, Jesus continued to show patience and grace and love, prioritizing their relationship despite their misunderstandings. Jesus never face palmed, gave blank stares, showed frustration, or raged quit.
No.
Jesus knew his disciples. He knew their difficulties and challenges and so he tried and tried and tried again.
In many ways we are like the disciples. How long did we misunderstood Jesus? How much do we still misunderstand about him? But, God knows us and shows that same patience and grace to us as he teaches us - in numerous and creative ways - who he is.
Therefore, if we have found any joy and peace in knowing Jesus, any comfort in him knowing us completely, then his example is the example we should follow to those who misunderstand us.
God's protection and blessing over you and your family and I look forward to worshiping with you all online this Sunday.
