Joy Defense
Today is May 1, 2019
Welcome to May and your mid-week!
When Apostle Paul wrote to the church of Thessalonica to 'rejoice always' he was reminding them to always abide in Christ Jesus for the purpose of protecting them from sin.
The church was facing an unjust situation. They were being persecuted and imprisoned and the temptation would be to fight back - to sin. Yet, Apostle Paul pleaded with the church to continue to love, be sanctified, and work hard while putting on 'faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a shield.'
From Jesus teachings, Apostle Paul knew that abiding in Christ would produce the fruit of joy and that this fruit could be had no matter the situation.
So, to protect them from sinning in their unjust situation, Apostle Paul was reminding them of the joy that could be had despite the situation. A joy to defend them against temptation and to give them the strength to carry on as disciples of Jesus.
And, in doing so, Apostle Paul reminds us as well.
No matter the hardships you currently face, know that the joy of the Lord is always at hand. Guard your heart with faith and love and guard your mind with the hope of salvation and the fruit of joy will come.
God's blessing upon you this week and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.
