TFPC EM NEWSLETTER - March 28, 2018

Hosanna!
Today is March 28, 2018
Welcome to your mid-week!
For the people of God during the Roman Empire, they were the underdogs. A million to one shot that they would ever conquer the military might of Rome and return to prominence as they once were back in the time of King David and Solomon.
And yet, with all the prophetic words of a future 'Messiah,' there was still hope. A million to one shot, yes, but still there was hope.
And that's when Jesus entered the scene.
Suddenly a million to one shot became more certain as Jesus started fulfilling prophecy after prophecy until, after the resurrection of Lazarus, he fulfilled the biggest prophecy of all.
Zechariah 9:9 - "Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
With Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey, all of God's people believed that they had victory at hand. They cried out 'Hosanna' and 'King' despite being under the rule of Rome. They fearlessly and joyfully praised Jesus believing that their underdog status was at an end and that Jesus had come to save them.
They were the underdog that won! Or, so they thought.
Later in the week, when Jesus didn't overthrow the Roman Empire but got arrested without a fight, all of that excitement and expectation turned to shouts of condemnation. 'Crucify Him!' they would shout. How dare Jesus give us that kind of hope - fulfill all those prophesies - and yet fail to deliver on being the savior and king to God's people.
However, Jesus did not come to save them. He had come to save us all. Jesus did not come to conquer the Roman Empire. He had come to conquer death. And, on Easter, all would see and know and, to this day, millions if not billions still fearlessly and joyfully praise His name.
And that is what we are suppose to do. From our minds to our eyes; from our smell to what we hear; it all needs to end with worship and praise to our King.
God's blessing upon you this Holy Week, and I look forward to seeing you all in the Main Sanctuary this Easter Sunday.
